Syrian Army’s Successful Campaign Against ISIS in SE Aleppo Allows Civilians to Return 15 March 2016 War Reports 1413 Source: Electronic Resistance Last week, the Syrian Arab Army’s 555th Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division – backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Liwaa Al-Quds (Jerusalem Brigade) – liberated a total of 13 villages in the Khanasser Plains of southeast Aleppo after a successful military campaign against the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS). Thanks to the efforts by the Syrian Armed Forces, civilians were able to return to their homes in the villages of Jubb Al-‘Ali, Khanaysir, Khirbat Al-Qalay’at, Furdaah, Al-Toubah, Hayak Al-Saghirah, Hayak Al-Kabeerah, and Zebed in the Khanasser Plains after leaving this region in late 2012. As a result of this successful military campaign, the Syrian Armed Forces have now advanced to the border of the Maskanah Plains, where ISIS is deeply entrenched around several villages near the Euphrates River. The battle for the Al-Maskanah Plains has not begun just yet and will not likely begin for a few weeks as the Syrian Armed Forces continue to mobilize more soldiers to combat ISIS’ large military presence in this region of the Aleppo Governorate. However, should the Syrian Armed Forces capture the Al-Maskanah Plains, they will be in great position to attack the Tabaqa Military Airport and the provincial capital of the Al-Raqqa Governorate.
