The Russian Air Force made their presence felt by the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) Friday morning, as they carried out 4 powerful airstrikes over the ancient Syriac Christian city of Al-Quraytayn and the Teefor-Palmyra Highway inside the Homs Governorate’s eastern countryside.

According to a military source in the Homs Governorate, the Russian Air Force first struck the ISIS command and control center inside the city of Al-Quraytayn; this airstrike by the Russian Air Force was reportedly a direct hit on the ISIS site, resulting in the destruction of the terrorist group’s C & C building.

Not long after their first airstrike in Al-Quraytayn, the Russian Air Force struck the terrorist group again, attacking an ISIS convoy attempting to make their way to the Teefor-Palmyra Highway near the Teefor Military Airport and Teefor Pumping Station.

The Russian Air Force would strike the terrorist group two more times along the highway stretching from the Iraqi-Homs border to the city of Al-Quraytayn; this left ISIS paralyzed around this vast desert front, as they were not able to reinforce their embattled comrades combatting both the heat and the Syrian Armed Forces.

Taking advantage of the Russian airstrikes, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and National Defense Forces (NDF) pushed ISIS back from the town Maheen towards Al-Quraytayn after a two hour engagement that resulted in the death of 18 terrorists and the destruction of two armored vehicles mounted with a 23mm anti-aircraft machine gun.

The Syrian Armed Forces launched a counter-attack from their positions to the southwest of Al-Quraytayn in order to recover the main road leading to this ancient Syriac Christian city.
